New Events

  1. Join us on Monday, February 21 at 4:30 for our ICTM Monthly Math Chat. This month we will continue discussing self care and setting boundaries. Zoom information for this event can be found here. Invite a friend!

  2. February is Black History Month. Celebrate contributions to mathematics by reading 11 Famous African American Mathematicians You Should Know About or watching "Hidden Figures" with your students.

  3. Who doesn't love Sara Van Der Werf? Check out her blog on "Nerding out on resources for Valentine's Day". Lots of fun ideas!

  4. And don't forget to break up the winter blahs by celebrating "Twosday", 2-22-22, with your students. Consider hosting math trivia throughout the day and giving away prizes in twos or decorating your classroom with twos and having children find them. Google 2-22-22 and you'll find lots of (free) ideas.

  5. Interested in knowing what bills are moving through Iowa's legislature? Check out the January 2022 Government Update by Ji Yeong I and Maryann Huey.

  6. Iowa STEM has two new scholarship for teachers that provide (1) Incentive for practicing STEM professionals to career transition to teaching; and (2) Support for in-service STEM teachers to update their skills and knowledge in the fast-moving fields of STEM. 

  7. The Iowa Department of Education is seeking licensed K-5 Iowa educators to serve as mathematics content developers during elementary unit development for inclusion in the Iowa e-Learning Central (ILC). The ILC is being developed as a new resource to provide access to courses and tools to support educators as they navigate virtual learning environments and incorporate online instruction. Apply Soon! Search ED-EG. It will be posted soon without notification.

  8. Have you heard about the new Debate Math Pod? It's a podcast where math lovers, math teachers and math students come together to explore arguments. Check out debatemath.com for resources to support using #DebateMath with students.
  9. Looking for some great PD? Attend the 2022 NCTM Regional Conference in Indianapolis, IN (March 16-18), the 2022 NCTM Annual Meeting & Exposition in Los Angeles, CA (Sept 28-Oct 1), or the 2022 NCTM Regional Conference in Baltimore, MD (Nov 30-Dec 2)!

  10. Don't forget to vote in NCTM's 2022 Board of Directors Election. Individual NCTM members may vote for one Canadian Representative, one Director at the Middle School Level, and two At-Large candidates. Voting opens on February 14 and will be conducted exclusively online.

  11. Interested in offering a high school data science course in 2022-2023?  "Explorations in Data Science", a full year course available by Jo Boaler and the folks at YouCubed, has a two day online workshop on how to use and implement the curriculum (which is available online) on June 8-9, 2022.

      Reminders

      1. Mark your calendars! ICTM is partnering with Knowledgehook to provide an online conference on April 9, 2022. The conference will be free to all ICTM members. Peter Liljedahl, author of Building Thinking Classrooms and featured speaker at the 2022 ICTM annual conference, and others will be speaking at this conference. 

      2.  Save the date, and get ready to connect, share, and learn. On Saturday, October 15, 2022, ICTM will hold its annual conference in person! The theme will be "Building Connections: Math + More" with Peter Liljedahl, author of "Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics, Grades K-12: 14 Teaching Practices for Enhancing Learning" as our keynote speaker. The Future & New Teacher Workshop will be the evening of Friday, October 14.
