Happy New Year!  

New Events

  1. It's a new year, and we have new board members. Hear from ICTM's new President, Angie Shindelar, in her welcome statement. And, read about our new board members: Sharon Jaeschke, VP Secondary, and Stephanie Steines, Keystone AEA Regional Director, as well as returning board members Shannon Pasvogel, Mississippi Bend Regional Director and April Pforts, Secretary.

  2. Join us on Monday, January 17th at 4:30 for our ICTM Monthly Math Chat. This month we will be discussing self care. We will be doing some fun activities! Invite your colleagues to join us. Zoom information for this event can be found here.

  3. Missed the summer Seven Doors In book study? ICTM is hosting another one from 4:30-6:30pm on Feb. 1, 8,15, 22 and March 1, 2022! Seven Doors In by Beth Rondeau (an Iowa educator!) details Beth's journey over three years teaching men in a maximum security prison. What can we do to help our neediest students before it is too late? Registration is required, but the event is free! One licensure credit will be offered to interested participants.

  4. Save the date, and get ready to connect, share, and learn. On Saturday, October 15, 2022, ICTM will hold its annual conference in person! The theme will be "Building Connections: Math + More" with Peter Liljedahl, author of "Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics, Grades K-12: 14 Teaching Practices for Enhancing Learning" as our keynote speaker. The Future & New Teacher Workshop will be the evening of Friday, October 14.

  5. Iowa STEM has two new scholarships that provide (1) Incentive for practicing STEM professionals to career transition to teaching; and (2) Support for in-service STEM teachers to update their skills and knowledge in the fast-moving fields of STEM. 

  6. The Iowa Department of Education is seeking licensed K-5 Iowa educators to provide mathematics content support during elementary unit development for inclusion in the Iowa e-Learning Central (ILC). The ILC is being developed as a new resource to provide access to courses and tools to support educators as they navigate virtual learning environments and incorporate online instruction. Apply now!

      Reminders

      1. Mark your calendars! ICTM is partnering with Knowledgehook to provide an online conference on April 9, 2022. The conference will be free to all ICTM members. Peter Liljedahl, author of Building Thinking Classrooms and featured speaker at the 2022 ICTM annual conference, and others will be speaking at this conference. 

      2. Looking for financial support for your professional development? NCTM's Mathematical Education Trust (MET) annually awards more than $150,000 to teachers, schools, and organizations through more than 30 different grants addressing a range of needs such as professional development, coursework, research, and conference attendance.

      3. Have you heard of the Iowa Mathematics Ecosystem (IME) The IME is for Iowa Mathematics Professional Organizations and any member of the Iowa mathematics community to connect and collaborate. Interested in joining the network and being kept up to date with the latest happenings?  Register your Iowa educator information here to see who is in the ecosystem
