Save the Date!

  1. ICTM is partnering with Knowledgehook to provide an online conference on April 9, 2022. The conference will be free to all ICTM members. Peter Liljedahl, author of "Building Thinking Classrooms" and featured speaker at the 2022 ICTM annual conference, and others will be speaking at this conference.

  2. Get ready to connect, share, and learn. On Saturday, October 15, 2022, ICTM will hold its annual conference in person! The theme is Building Connections: Math + More. Peter Liljedahl, author of "Building Thinking Classrooms", is our keynote speaker. The Future & New Teacher Workshop will be the evening of Friday, October 14


Congratulations!

Congratulations to 2020 PAEMST (Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching) awardee Angie Bonthuis, a mathematics educator at Gilbert Elementary School in the Gilbert Community School District and awardee Sarah Borzo, a former science teacher at Waukee Middle School, Waukee. Awards occurred in February 2022. Learn more about the next application cycle here.

    1. March is Women's History Month! Check out Women Doing Math, Biographies of Women in Math, or this 4th Grade Activity by ICTM member Deb Little.

    2. March 14 is Pi Day!  Check out NCTM's page with elementary, middle grades, and high school activities, Celebrating National Pi Day, or find your birthday in pi.  What's your favorite Pi Day activity? Tell us here.

    3. Check out the February 2022 Government Update by Ji Yeong I and Maryann Huey to find out which bills are working their way through the funnel and which bills are dead.

    4. Join us on Monday, March 21 at 4:30 for our ICTM Monthly Math Chat.  Zoom information for this event can be found here. Invite a friend!
      1. Interested in offering a high school data science course in 2022-2023?  "Explorations in Data Science", a full year course available by Jo Boaler and the folks at YouCubed, has a two day online workshop on how to use and implement the curriculum (which is available online) on June 8-9, 2022

      2. We have money! We have grants to support attendance at NCTM and ICTM conferences, extra-curricular student activities, graduate studies, and curriculum design.  Most application deadlines are June 30, but you don't have to wait that long - apply now!

      3. Iowa STEM has two new scholarship for teachers that provide (1) Incentive for practicing STEM professionals to career transition to teaching; and (2) Support for in-service STEM teachers to update their skills and knowledge in the fast-moving fields of STEM. 

      4. NCTM's  Mathematics Education Trust (MET) annually awards more than $150,000 to teachers, schools, and organizations through more than 30 different grants addressing a range of needs such as professional development, coursework, research, and conference attendance. Proposals are due May 1.
